Whiterocks Resort - Bafra, Northern Cyprus - A Word from the Architects On Property Development

An important aspect of the concept behind the design was the creation of village squares where residents can enjoy a stunning landscape as well as a wide range of facilities and in turn, create a vibrant atmosphere within the resort. Our brief was to create a landscape so beautiful owners would decide to buy whilst walking through the village square, long before they had even set foot in their potential new home.

The village square acts as a mirror to the surrounding landscape, bringing a wonderful array of plant life into the heart of Whiterocks. It also influenced floor plans, as we wanted every apartment to overlook the square while at the same time enjoying the vistas of sea and mountains.

Traditional Cypriot cantilevered balconies, that overlook many towns and villages throughout the region, were an important reference in the design of the properties. Timber cladding, combined with the use of local stone and diamond-white rendered walls, give a contemporary feel. While the inclusion of the indigenous pink Bougainville adds a splash of colour and will be encouraged to grow vertically up the face of buildings, bringing the countryside into the core of the development, softening the edges of the architecture and making for a thoroughly harmonious environment.

Internally, the emphasis is on open plan living and all the benefits that brings. Each apartment maximises the full height glazed screens that fold back to converge indoor living spaces with expansive private outdoor areas.

However, throughout the entire design process we have never forgotten that we are creating people’s homes and influencing their lives by doing so. If that isn’t motivation to create the highest quality residential development within Northern Cyprus, then we simply don’t know what is!
